Road signal controller core working principle

Road signal controller is the core control brain of traffic lights. Using a microcontroller chip, it accurately controls traffic light timing at intersections according to a pre-programmed schedule, preventing conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians. Intelligent traffic signal controller

I. Core Control Chip

The control chip is the brain of the intelligent traffic signal controller and is equivalent to the brain of the device. The chip is pre-programmed with all timing parameters and operating programs. During operation, the chip receives signals, processes data, and issues commands to turn lights on and off in a uniform, continuous manner. The control chip is the overall coordinator of the entire system; whether it is the fixed schedule operation or the intelligent adaptive mode of operation, it can ensure the stable and synchronous operation of the entire system and will not cause errors in the traffic light signal.

II. Phased Timing Control

This is the single most important safety principle. The intelligent traffic signal controller divides the traffic into independent phases for straight ahead, left turn and pedestrian crossing directions. Only one phase is active at any one time and any conflicting traffic signals are suppressed; For example, by giving a green light straight ahead in the east-west direction, all north-south traffic lights are forced to turn red, preventing traffic collisions at the hardware level and providing basic traffic safety at intersections. Meanwhile, multi-phase modes can be added for multi-way intersections to satisfy complex road conditions.

III. Precise Timing and Coordination

The intelligent traffic signal controller includes a high-precision internal timing module which can set the time duration of traffic light signals (green, yellow and yellow) for different periods. Three schemes can be set up for regular intersections: morning peak, off-peak and nighttime, with the device automatically turning on time. The yellow light is a buffer warning . There is a fixed yellow light time reserved before each light color change to clear any remaining vehicles from the intersection, preventing rear-end collisions caused by abrupt light changes. The time delay is very low and guarantees the traffic order at intersections.

IV. Smart Sensing And Self-Protection Against Failures

The intelligent traffic signal controller can be provided with external grounding magnets and vehicle detectors to collect real-time traffic flow data and automatically adjust the green light time to reduce the traffic congestion. It also has the built-in principle of fault self-diagnosis: When the lamp fails, a short circuit occurs or the power is cut off, the controller will automatically enter the night flashing yellow mode to remind the passing vehicle to slow down and give way. Can be debugged remotely via network, so timing settings can be changed directly from the backend without disassembling the device on site.
