What Should Be Checked on Traffic Signal Pole Drawings Before Production

Production should begin with a drawing package that answers the fabricator’s practical questions: which pole is required, where each component belongs, and which revision has been approved. A small inconsistency between the traffic signal pole drawing and foundation plan can become an installation problem after delivery. Before releasing a traffic signal pole for fabrication, review the following items together with the project specifications.

Confirm the correct drawing set

Match the project reference, pole identification, quantities, revision dates, and approval status. The general arrangement, component details, and equipment schedule should describe the same configuration. Check that earlier review comments have been resolved and that superseded drawings have been withdrawn. If a detail still says “to be confirmed,” identify who must resolve it before the affected work starts.

The parts list should use the same item references as the detailed views, so purchased brackets, connection plates, and fasteners can be traced to the correct assembly.

Check dimensions and viewing directions

Verify pole height, mast arm projection, section sizes, wall thicknesses, and connection positions against the approved design. State the reference level for each height, particularly where finished ground level and the top of the base plate differ. Dimensions should include units and relevant tolerances.

Compare the plan and elevation views. Confirm the arm direction, connection angle, and access door orientation. Where clearance is specified, measure it to the appropriate equipment point rather than assuming pole height alone establishes clearance.

Distinguish the horizontal reach of a sloping arm from its fabricated length. Confirm any splice location and required assembly overlap are clearly shown.

Coordinate the base plate and anchor template

Compare the pole base detail with the approved foundation drawing and anchor template. Check the plate dimensions and thickness, hole quantity, hole diameter, center spacing or bolt circle, and pattern orientation. Confirm the specified anchor diameter and exposed length, including the space needed for the intended nut and washer arrangement.

Also inspect where stiffeners, cable openings, and grounding connections sit. A plate may fit the bolts while its rotated position leaves an opening obstructed. Clarify discrepancies before drilling.

Verify equipment and fabrication details

Locate every specified signal head, backplate, sign, camera, luminaire, and bracket on the drawing. Their positions and specifications should agree with the equipment used for structural verification; substitutions require review by the responsible designer. A drawing review checks coordination; the responsible engineer must still verify structural capacity under the project’s specified loads.

Review material grades, weld symbols, joint details, inspection requirements, and identification marks. Make sure cable passages align through connected parts and that the access opening remains reachable after installation. Resolve ambiguous details through written clarification.

Settle coating requirements and release approval

Identify the specified finish and applicable acceptance requirements. For hot-dip galvanized assemblies, review vent and drain provisions with the galvanizer before fabrication. These openings must suit the fabrication geometry and dipping arrangement.

Record approval of the final revision according to the project’s responsibilities. Send the same released set to fabrication, inspection, and the installation team. When an approved dimension changes, update every affected sheet and obtain the necessary review before proceeding.

For a custom traffic signal pole order, send Qixiang the project drawing package and equipment schedule with your inquiry. Recording unresolved dimensions and installation interfaces early gives both buyer and manufacturer a clearer basis for production.
