Installation methods of red and green traffic lights

1. Cantilever type

Cantilever type 1: Suitable for installation on branch roads. In order to maintain the spacing between lamp heads, generally only 1~2 groups of signal lights are installed. Auxiliary signal lights sometimes also use this installation method.

Cantilever type 2: Suitable for installation on main roads, the requirements for light poles are relatively high, especially when there is no green belt separation between motor vehicle lanes and non-motor vehicle lanes. In order to meet the requirements for the installation position of the signal light, a relatively long horizontal arm must be used, and the light pole is installed 2m behind the curb. The advantage of this installation method is that it can adapt to the installation and control of signal facilities at multi-phase intersections, reducing the difficulty of laying engineering cables, especially in complex traffic intersections, it is easier to design multiple signal control schemes.

Double cantilever type 3: It is a form that is not recommended. It is only suitable for installation when the median is wide and there are many import lanes. It needs to install two sets at the entrance and exit of the intersection at the same time, so it is a very wasteful form.

2. Column type

Column type installation is generally used for auxiliary signals, installed on the left and right sides of the exit lane, and can also be installed on the left and right sides of the import lane.

3. Gate type

Gate type is a lane traffic signal light control method, suitable for installation at the entrance of the tunnel or above the lane that changes direction.

4. Attachment type

The signal light on the cross arm is installed horizontally, and the signal light on the vertical pole can be used as an auxiliary signal light, generally as a pedestrian-bicycle signal light.

Installation height of the red and green signal light

The installation height of the road traffic signal light is generally the vertical distance from the lowest point of the signal light to the road surface. When cantilever installation is adopted, the height is 5.5m to 7m; when column installation is adopted, the height should not be less than 3m; when installed on the overpass, it shall not be lower than the clearance of the bridge body.

Installation position of traffic lights

Guide the installation position of motor vehicle traffic lights, the reference axis of the signal lights should be parallel to the ground, and the vertical plane of the reference axis passes through the center point 60 meters behind the parking line of the controlled motor vehicle lane; the installation position of non-motor vehicle signal lights should make the reference axis of the signal lights parallel to the ground, and the vertical plane of the reference axis passes through the center point of the parking line of the controlled non-motor vehicle lane; the installation position of pedestrian crossing signal lights should make the reference axis of the signal lights parallel to the ground, and the vertical plane of the reference axis passes through the midpoint of the boundary line of the controlled pedestrian crossing.
