Road signs are familiar to everyone. As traffic facilities for maintaining traffic safety, their role is undeniable. The traffic signs we see are already erected on both sides of the road. I. Choosing a Suitable Road Sign Pole Location
Based on the design drawings, the engineer uses the road centerline as the lateral control line and employs a theodolite, steel tape measure, and other necessary tools to accurately determine the lateral position of the sign foundation.
Based on the size of the foundation and the state of the roads, the site for foundation excavation is chosen and marked.
II. Digging the Foundation for Road Sign Poles
Excavation is done in accordance with the markings created by the on-site engineer after the road sign pole foundation has been excavated and marked in accordance with the drawings. The foundation pit’s dimensions and depth must adhere to the specifications in the drawings. Excavated soil must either be transported off-site or treated using techniques authorized by the supervising engineer. It cannot be disposed of carelessly.
III. Pouring Concrete for the Foundation Pit of a Road Sign Pole
Prior to building a road, the concrete foundation should be finished. Qualified sand, stone, and cement should be used, and the mix should be prepared in accordance with the concrete mix design test report, once the supervising engineer has examined and verified the size and dimensions of the foundation pit. Before pouring, use a mixer to thoroughly mix the mixture on-site.
A vibrator should be used during pouring to guarantee uniform and dense compaction, which will ensure the stability of the foundation. Exposed portions of the foundation should be enclosed with smooth templates. After demolding, there should be no irregular honeycomb or pitted surface, and the surface layer should be flat.
What other preparatory work needs attention?
(1) Material Verification: Materials should be obtained strictly according to the design documents. All materials must be accompanied by material certificates. The sign structure and signboard fabrication must be correct, and the characters, patterns, and colors must be accurate.
(2) Protection: After explaining the situation to the traffic police or relevant departments and obtaining approval, warning traffic facilities such as crash barriers, reflective cones, and construction signs should be placed appropriately, avoiding excessive disruption to traffic. Vigilance and safety precautions are necessary during construction.
