For parents, it is crucial to understand the traffic signs around schools when driving or cycling to pick up and drop off their children. These silent traffic police guide oncoming vehicles and constantly remind parents to drive carefully. With the development of urban economic construction, the setting up of traffic signs near schools is gradually becoming more standardized. Today, Qixiang will introduce the relevant requirements for setting up traffic signs near schools.
The setting up of traffic signs near schools needs to comprehensively consider both safety and standardization. Specific requirements are as follows:
Speed Limit Signs and Warning Signs
Speed Limit Signs: A speed limit sign of 30 km/h should be set up within 150 meters of the school entrance, along with a “School Area” auxiliary sign.
Child Warning Signs: A yellow triangular “Child Warning” sign should be set up at the entrance to the school area to remind drivers to slow down.
Pedestrian Crossing Facilities
Pedestrian Crossing Markings: When there is no pedestrian crossing facility in front of the school entrance, pedestrian crossing markings and warning signs must be set up.
Warning Signs: Warning signs should be set up 30-50 meters before the pedestrian crossing to remind drivers to slow down.
No Parking Signs
No Parking: “No Parking” or “No Long-Term Parking” signs should be placed around the school entrance. Temporary parking is limited to 30 seconds. On both sides of the school gate, there should be no parking signs within 30 meters.
Special Area Requirements:
Intersection Warnings: Intersection warning signs should be placed 300-500 meters before the school intersection to remind drivers to choose their routes in advance. Traffic Lights/School Safety Signs: Either traffic police should be stationed to direct traffic, or traffic lights for students crossing the road should be placed on both sides of the pedestrian crossing.
Pedestrian Crossing Guidance Signs
Where there is no grade-separated pedestrian crossing within 50 meters of the school gate, a pedestrian crossing line with a width of not less than 6 meters should be painted, and pedestrian crossing signs should be installed accordingly. On main roads or sections with high pedestrian traffic, if safety islands or grade-separated pedestrian crossings are provided, corresponding directional signs should be added.
Supporting Requirements
Signs should preferably use high-grade reflective film, and the size can be one size larger than the standard size. They should be placed above the carriageway or on the right side of the road. In conjunction with speed bumps and other facilities, raised road markings are added to improve traffic safety in conjunction with pedestrian crossing signals.
